Charging Process
When an external power supply applies voltage, lithium ions (Li+) in the cathode material (e.g., NCM811) are extracted under the influence of the electric field, with the crystal structure transforming from LiNCM to NCM.
The Li+ ions migrate through the electrolyte, pass through the separator, and move toward the anode, where they are ultimately intercalated into the anode material
Electrons flow from the cathode to the anode through the external circuit, achieving charge balance and enabling the battery to store energy.
Discharging Process
When an external device is connected, the Li ions intercalated in the anode are extracted. Electrons flow from the anode to the cathode through the external circuit, forming an electric current to power the device.
The Li+ ions migrate in the reverse direction through the electrolyte and separator, re-intercalating into the cathode material (following the reaction: NCM + Li+ + e- → LiNCM).
The cathode material reverts to its initial structure, and the battery completes the energy release process.
